Before you land
Cancún International Airport serves travellers heading to Cancún, the Hotel Zone, Playa Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen and Tulum. The most helpful decision is made before departure: know where you are staying and decide whether a pre-booked transfer, bus or rental car fits your trip.
Keep your hotel name, address and any transport confirmation available on your phone. Terminal allocation and transport conditions can change, so check the latest airline and operator information close to travel.
Terminals and orientation
The airport has four terminals. Terminal 1 is used for private aviation, while terminals 2, 3 and 4 serve commercial flights. An internal shuttle connects terminals, but it is not hotel transport.
Do not assume a terminal change is instant. Leave a generous buffer for connections and follow signage and information desks. Your airline and date determine the terminal you need.
From the airport to your hotel
For many first-time visitors, a pre-booked authorised transfer is the simplest option: you know who is meeting you and avoid negotiating after a long flight. ADO buses can be useful for bus stations and onward destinations, but they generally do not stop at hotels.
If you use a taxi or private vehicle, confirm the exact destination, price basis and operator before leaving the arrivals area. Avoid unauthorised offers and use your hotel or a reputable operator if anything is unclear.
Returning to the airport
Ask your hotel or transport operator for a sensible pickup time and reconfirm your departure terminal. Traffic, weather and queues can affect the day, so do not rely only on a map estimate.
Before you travel
- Check the airline terminal information
- Choose transport for your actual destination
- Save the hotel address and confirmation offline
- Reconfirm departure timing before leaving
