Cancun has hundreds of hotels, and the hardest part is often not finding a good hotel — but finding the right hotel for your specific holiday. A fantastic adults-only hotel is not necessarily a good choice for a family. A huge All Inclusive resort can be perfect if you plan to stay at the hotel all week, but the wrong choice if you want to eat out every evening. That’s why we don’t just rank hotels from 1 to 20. We divide them according to who they suit best.
Our hotel picks in Cancun
Hyatt Ziva Cancun – best location for families
Hyatt Ziva sits spectacularly at Punta Cancún and is one of the hotels we would consider first for families who want the combination of All Inclusive and a central location. The resort is located at the tip of the point and has the sea on several sides.
- Suitable for
- Families and first-time visitors.
- Pros
- Location, All Inclusive and family profile.
- Be aware of
- Price can be high.
Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach – luxury and central location
An interesting combination for those who want a luxurious resort but still be centrally located at Punta Cancún. The location provides easy access to restaurants and activities outside the hotel. Suitable for: Couples and families who prioritize quality and location.
Le Blanc Spa Resort – for luxury without children
One of the best-known luxury adults-only hotels in Cancun. This is the option for couples who want the resort itself to be a large part of the experience.
- Suitable for
- Couples, honeymoons and luxury holidays.
- Not for
- Families with children.
Hyatt Zilara Cancun – for couples
Another well-known adults-only option in the Hotel Zone. A good choice if you want All Inclusive and a beach holiday without families with children around the pool area.
Kempinski Hotel Cancún – classic luxury
For travelers who prioritize service, beach and a more classic luxury hotel. Particularly interesting if you don’t want the Cancun holiday to necessarily be about a huge family-oriented megaresort.
Moon Palace – the resort that is almost a destination
Moon Palace lies south of the Hotel Zone itself and functions almost as its own holiday destination. Choosing here is largely about the resort. It suits well if the plan is to have many activities available without leaving the hotel grounds.
- Suitable for
- Families and travelers who like large resorts.
- Less ideal for
- Those who want to walk out of the hotel and explore the Hotel Zone every evening.
Finest Playa Mujeres – for family holidays outside the Hotel Zone
North of Cancun lie Playa Mujeres and Costa Mujeres. Finest Playa Mujeres is an interesting option for families who want a modern resort and do not need to stay in the middle of the Hotel Zone.
Excellence Playa Mujeres – for couples who want peace
An option north of Cancun for adults who prioritize the resort, beach and relaxation over being in the Hotel Zone. Which hotel should you choose? Don’t just ask:
"What is the best hotel in Cancun?"
Ask:
"What is the best hotel in Cancun for us?"

First Cancun trip
We like the Hotel Zone because you get both the resort and Cancun around you.
Pure resort holiday
Then you should also look north toward Playa Mujeres/Costa Mujeres or south toward the large resorts outside the Hotel Zone.

In addition we always answer the most important question: Who should book this hotel — and who should choose something else? We believe that is far more useful than just giving all good hotels 9 out of 10. The hotel guide should clearly state "Last checked: August 2026", because hotel concepts, restaurants and All Inclusive terms change. Hyatt Ziva and Moon Palace repeatedly appear among highly rated family options in recent guides and guest overviews, but this is an area where we should quality-assure against the hotels’ own terms before publication.
Where to stay
Choose a base before you choose a hotel.
Start with the kind of holiday you want: beach-first resort time, family-friendly logistics, restaurants and evenings, or frequent outings. Then compare the Hotel Zone, accommodation style and transfer needs as one decision.
